Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday highlighted a long-standing concern regarding the lack of speaking opportunities for young and first-time Members of Parliament (MPs). Speaking ahead of the opening of the Winter Session of Parliament, the Prime Minister urged all parties to ensure that new MPs are given adequate time to present their views and represent their constituencies.
PM Modi Calls for Greater Participation of Young MPs
Addressing the media outside Parliament, PM Modi said that many newly elected MPs feel discouraged because they do not get a platform to showcase their capabilities.
“Young and first-time MPs are very disappointed because they are not getting the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities or speak about the issues affecting their constituencies. They want to contribute to the nation’s progress, but they are being prevented from doing so,” he said.
The Prime Minister emphasized that every first-time MP—regardless of political affiliation—should have the chance to speak in the House and participate meaningfully in legislative discussions.
Prime Minister’s Subtle Message to the Opposition
In what appeared to be a veiled comment aimed at the Opposition benches, PM Modi noted that disruptions and theatrics hinder democratic participation.
“There are many places where ‘drama’ can be done—there is space for that. But not here,” he stated, underscoring the importance of maintaining decorum in Parliament.
The Winter Session is expected to witness key debates and legislative business, with the Prime Minister’s remarks setting the tone for more constructive and inclusive parliamentary proceedings.
