On the second day of his Gujarat visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the ‘Lakhpati Didis’ programme in Navsari, marking International Women’s Day with a powerful message of empowerment.
The event recognized 41,000 ‘Lakhpati Didis’ and 1.5 lakh women for their contributions to economic growth.
PM Modi extended warm wishes to all women, declaring, “I am the richest person in the world because my account is filled with the blessings of crores of mothers and sisters.” He emphasized the significance of women in building a developed India, referring to them as ‘Narayani’ (divine) and underscoring the need for their empowerment.
During the event, the Prime Minister launched two new initiatives—’Gujarat Safal’ and ‘Gujarat Maitri’—aimed at providing direct financial assistance to women. These schemes focus on enhancing economic independence by transferring funds directly to women’s bank accounts.
The ‘Lakhpati Didi’ initiative, part of the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM), empowers rural women by helping them earn at least Rs 1 lakh annually through skill-based and entrepreneurial activities. The program offers training, financial support, and market linkages to transform women into successful entrepreneurs, driving economic growth at the grassroots level.
PM Modi highlighted the resilience and strength of women, encouraging their active participation across various sectors to propel India’s development journey forward.
