A tragic accident occurred this morning at Platform No. 4 of Rayagada Railway Station when a passenger train travelling from Visakhapatnam to Raipur collided with a light motor trolley used for track maintenance. The incident resulted in the death of one contractual labourer and injuries to two others.
According to initial reports, the trolley was positioned between Line No. 4 and 5 in the Rayagada Yard and was not on any active track. However, the umbrella of the push trolley became entangled with a moving wagon of a goods train, leading to the fatal impact. One labourer was hit and died on the spot, while another labourer and the trolley man sustained minor injuries. They were admitted to a nearby hospital and are expected to be discharged after medical attention.
Senior Railway officials promptly visited the site to investigate the incident. The Railways have confirmed that suitable compensation is being provided by the contractor responsible for the maintenance work.
