Rail traffic was briefly disrupted this morning after three wagons of an empty freight train derailed near Cuttack Railway Station while en route to Paradip.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:43 AM on Route No.8 (loop line) within Cuttack Yard, prompting an immediate response from railway officials.
According to East Coast Railway (ECoR) sources, the derailment is suspected to have happened during a track change manoeuvre. Thankfully, no injuries or casualties have been reported.
As the derailment took place within the yard section, passenger train services remained largely unaffected. Nevertheless, the ECoR has initiated restoration operations on a priority basis and launched an inquiry to ascertain the exact cause of the mishap.
Senior railway personnel and a technical team rushed to the site to evaluate infrastructure damage and expedite track clearance. While the Cuttack-Bhadrak-Visakhapatnam mainline and the Paradip route continue to operate normally, several inbound freight trains were temporarily halted.
Railway authorities have assured the public that thorough safety checks are being conducted, and services are expected to resume normalcy shortly.
