Police seized a Bolero pickup van loaded with over 9 quintals of ganja near Ranisarda Chhak under Tarbha police limits in Boudh district.
The vehicle, originating from Kantamal in Boudh district, was intercepted following a high-speed chase triggered by police suspicion.
Upon alerting the Menda outpost, both the Tarbha and Menda police teams coordinated to intercept the vehicle near the Burda-Arjunpur road. The Bolero van, bearing registration number OD 03 AB 9281, was found carrying approximately 930 packets of cannabis.
The seizure was conducted in the presence of Magistrate Diptimayee Bhue, and the total weight is expected to exceed 9 quintals. The estimated market value of the confiscated ganja is around Rs 2 crore.
Under the directive of Subarnapur SP Narayan Nayak, Tarbha IIC Anita Kido led the patrolling operation. One individual has been detained in connection with the smuggling.
The operation saw active participation from SI Shubhendu Singh, Menda outpost officer Tankadhar Chhatria, Ranjit Mahapatra, and other personnel from both Tarbha and Menda police stations.
This is the second major seizure in the area this month. On July 1st, Tarbha police had confiscated over 6 quintals of ganja near Tarbha Bada Bandh, sparking widespread discussion.
Locals gathered in large numbers to witness the seized contraband, and speculation is rife that the smuggling network may extend beyond Odisha’s borders. Further investigation is underway, and more details will be shared post verification.
