More than 70 people, including children, women, and men, fell ill after consuming dahibara in Gabajor village under Similipadar panchayat of Kantamal block in Boudh district.

The incident triggered widespread panic in the area.

According to reports, villagers purchased dahibara from a local vendor during the weekly market on Wednesday. Later, the same vendor sold the snacks across Gabajor and nearby areas. By Thursday morning, those who had eaten the food began suffering from dizziness and vomiting. Several children became critically ill.

On receiving information, Dr Nikhil Prasad Bhukta and his team from Palasagora health centre rushed to the village and began treatment. As the number of serious cases increased, another medical team from Manamunda health centre joined them. Doctors and staff continued treating patients until midnight.

Medical Officer Mahendra Sae confirmed that arrangements were being made to shift severely affected patients to larger hospitals. He added that the situation demanded urgent intervention to prevent further casualties.

The incident created an atmosphere of fear in Gabajor village. Families worried about the health of their children and neighbours. However, by Friday morning, officials reported a slight improvement in the condition of many patients.
