To boost public transportation safety and efficiency, Principal Secretary Smt. Usha Padhee reviewed the operations of the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) and Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) in Bhubaneswar.
The meeting was attended by CMD OSRTC Diptesh Pattanaik, Transport Commissioner Amitabh Thakur, MD CRUT Dr Thirumala Nayak, Prof. Venkatesh Subramanian from IIT Madras, and other senior officials and stakeholders.
The review emphasized enforcing stringent regulatory frameworks to ensure compliance with safety standards. This includes routine vehicle inspections, adherence to traffic norms, and strict monitoring of driver conduct. Additionally, continuous training programs for drivers and staff were highlighted to enhance skills in safe driving practices, emergency response, and customer service.
The adoption of advanced technologies was also a key focus, with recommendations for integrating GPS tracking, real-time monitoring systems, and digital ticketing solutions to improve operational efficiency and passenger safety.
Principal Secretary Smt. Usha Padhee stated, “Ensuring the safety of passengers is our utmost priority. By focusing on enforcement, capacity building, and the adoption of modern technology, we aim to provide safe, reliable, and efficient public transportation services in Odisha.”
The review further explored collaborative initiatives between OSRTC and CRUT to share best practices and optimize resource utilization. Officials were directed to expedite the implementation of these measures and conduct periodic evaluations to assess their effectiveness.
