The Orissa High Court has taken strong cognizance of an unsettling baby-swap allegation at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
The court has directed the hospital superintendent to file a detailed response by April 2, 2025, amid rising concerns about the incident’s implications.
This case, filed by petitioner Ratna Behera, revolves around the tragic sequence of events when his wife gave birth to a healthy baby girl on February 11, 2025. What began as a joyous occasion quickly turned into despair as doctors claimed the baby fell ill and needed ICU care.
Subsequently, the family was informed that the baby had passed away, and a body was handed over to them. Upon preparing for the burial, discrepancies in identifying the body prompted the family to suspect a swap.
Further inquiries revealed shocking irregularities, leading to the petitioner seeking justice through legal channels.
Justice Sanjeeb Kumar Panigrahi, hearing the matter, has ordered notices to all respondents involved and emphasized the need for accountability. With judicial intervention underway, the state awaits clarification and resolution to the troubling claim.
