The Orissa High Court has allowed the no-confidence proceedings against Tikiri Sarpanch Chameli Ojha of Mahakalapada block in Odisha’s Kendrapara district to proceed as scheduled.

The court was hearing a petition filed by Chameli challenging the no-confidence motion brought against her. While allowing the election process to continue, the High Court directed that the result of the proceedings must not be declared without its permission.

Chameli had approached the court seeking to challenge the motion. The interim order means that the voting process can take place, but its outcome will remain subject to further orders from the court.

Chameli’s lawyer Sukanta Dalei said, “The court has directed the state government and both parties that the election will proceed. However, the result of the election will not be announced without the court’s permission.”

According to the report, 21 of the 22 ward members have backed the no-confidence motion against Chameli Ojha. The ward members have reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with her functioning.
