In a strategic move to bolster national security, India has launched ‘Operation Shield,’ a civil defence drill across states neighbouring Pakistan.
The drills, conducted in Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, and Chandigarh, aim to assess emergency response capabilities in potential hostile scenarios.
Initially planned for May 29, the operation was rescheduled due to administrative reasons, emphasising the importance of preparedness. The exercises include air raid sirens, blackout protocols, and coordinated emergency responses, ensuring authorities and civilians remain vigilant.
Officials highlight that complete blackouts will be enforced in vulnerable regions of Punjab, except for essential services. The initiative follows insights gained from a previous nationwide drill on May 7, designed to close critical security gaps.
As tensions persist in sensitive border areas, ‘Operation Shield’ reinforces India’s commitment to safety and rapid response mechanisms.
