A young man was brutally murdered, allegedly over an online betting dispute in Bolangir district.
The victim, identified as Baishnav Mahananda (24) from Themara village, was found near the railway tracks between Malisira and Rahenbhata with severe injuries.
According to preliminary police investigations, the murder appears to be a well-planned attack. The victim’s body bore multiple fatal wounds, suggesting a violent assault. His mobile phones, liquor bottles, cigarettes, and a bullet motorcycle were recovered from the crime scene, raising suspicions of foul play.
Authorities suspect that the murder is linked to online betting, stock market dealings, and gaming apps, where large sums of money were allegedly exchanged. Reports indicate that Baishnav was called to the location by unidentified individuals before being attacked.
Baishnav’s family has accused the local youth involved in online transactions of orchestrating the murder. His brother, Padman Mahananda, revealed that Baishnav had left home on his motorcycle on Friday evening, later making distress calls to relatives about an attack. The next morning, his lifeless body was discovered.
The Titilagarh GRP police, along with forensic teams and sniffer dogs, have launched an extensive investigation. Officials, including SDPO Lakshminarayan Marandi, are examining the crime scene for further evidence. The case, initially registered as an unnatural death, may soon be reclassified as homicide based on forensic findings.
