Acclaimed filmmaker Om Raut has officially announced his next directorial venture, Kalam: The Missile Man of India, at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.
The biopic will chronicle the extraordinary journey of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, India’s esteemed aerospace scientist and former President, with actor Dhanush stepping into the role.
Raut, known for Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior and Lokmanya, shared that his inspiration stemmed from reading Wings of Fire during his college years. He expressed that Kalam’s principles of education, indigenous innovation, and resilience shaped his approach to storytelling.
“When portraying Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, it’s essential to capture not just his achievements but also his spiritual journey and teachings,” Raut explained. “Dhanush embodies this depth perfectly, and I believe there couldn’t have been a better choice.”
Produced by Abhishek Agarwal, with T-Series and Bhushan Kumar backing the project, the film is expected to be a powerful tribute to a visionary leader. Scripted by Saiwyn Quadras, who previously penned Neerja and Maidaan, the film aims to inspire audiences by showcasing Kalam’s transformative impact on India’s scientific and national progress.
Kalam: The Missile Man of India promises to delve into Kalam’s life from his humble beginnings in Rameswaram to Rashtrapati Bhavan, celebrating his contributions as a scientist, teacher, and the people’s president. As anticipation builds, this cinematic endeavour seeks to honour his legacy and continue inspiring generations.
