Odisha has set a new record in its paddy procurement efforts, with a total purchase of 74 lakh metric tons this year.
This marks an increase of 16 lakh metric tons compared to the previous year, according to Food Supply Minister Krushna Chandra Patra.
In his address to the state assembly, the minister elaborated on the steps taken to ensure efficient storage and management of rice. He revealed that the Food Corporation of India (FCI) will procure 46 lakh metric tons of rice this year, following the central government’s approval of Odisha’s request for additional procurement.
Furthermore, the state government has arranged storage for 10 lakh metric tons of rice and finalized related tenders. Plans are also underway for the free sale of surplus rice to ensure better management and utilization of resources.
This initiative highlights the government’s proactive approach to addressing agricultural challenges and supporting the farming community.
