In a tribute to ‘nari shakti’ on International Women’s Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi handed over his social media accounts to two eminent women scientists, including Elina Mishra from Odisha’s Bhubaneswar.
Elina Mishra, a nuclear scientist, and Shilpi Soni, a space scientist from Madhya Pradesh, shared their success stories and work experiences with the world. Prime Minister Modi had announced this initiative as a part of his tribute to women’s empowerment. “We bow to our Nari Shakti on #WomensDay! Our Government has always worked to empower women, reflecting in our schemes and programmes. Today, as promised, my social media properties will be taken over by women who are making a mark in diverse fields,” he tweeted.
Elina Mishra recounted her journey, attributing her passion for science to her father and her selection at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in Mumbai. Her work includes notable contributions in electromagnetism, accelerator physics, and the development of innovative solutions for medical applications in remote areas. She highlighted her pride in developing magnetic and RF characterisation of Drift Tube Linac cavities for the Low Energy High Intensity Proton Accelerator (LEHIPA) and the Proton Improvement Plan (PIP-II) project.
On this special day, PM Modi’s social media handles also featured Chess Grandmaster Vaishali, among other women achievers who took charge, sharing their inspiring stories and achievements.
The initiative showcases India’s vibrant talent in science and technology, encouraging more women to pursue careers in these fields.
