A five-day workshop on cybersecurity, secure administration, and cyber awareness commenced today at the Odisha Computer Application Centre (OCAC) premises.

The event, scheduled to run until September 19, is jointly organised by the Electronics and Information Technology (E&IT) Department of the Odisha Government, OCAC, the Information Security Education and Awareness (ISEA) Project, the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), and IIT Bhubaneswar. The workshop aims to equip government officials and technical personnel with the knowledge and skills to protect themselves and their organisations from the growing threat of cybercrime.

Participants will gain comprehensive insights into cyber threats and vulnerabilities, best practices for secure internet and mobile usage, frameworks for CCTV and network security monitoring, continuous surveillance, cyber laws, legal safeguards, risk identification, and immediate response strategies for cyber incidents. The training also focuses on building organisational and individual resilience to strengthen cybersecurity.

The workshop was inaugurated with a welcome address by Professor Debasish Jena from IIT Bhubaneswar, who outlined the event’s objectives and highlighted the participating institutions.

Principal Secretary Vishal Kumar Dev emphasised the workshop’s role in raising awareness, enhancing security measures, and empowering individuals and society to stay safe in the digital world. He noted, “Cybersecurity is not just a technical issue; it’s a moral responsibility. Simple steps like safeguarding personal information, regularly updating passwords, and being cautious of suspicious emails and links can prevent major incidents.”

Professor Dr. Ashish Ghosh, Director of IIT Bhubaneswar, elaborated on the importance of cybersecurity education, citing real-world examples of cybercrime and stressing the need for awareness. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Pradeep Kumar Rout, Special Secretary of the E&IT Department.
