Odisha will conduct a statewide survey to identify children with disabilities from birth to six years.
The Department of Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities has issued guidelines for the exercise.
Anganwadi workers will visit households to collect information. The government has announced an incentive of Rs 500 for each worker to support the survey effort. Officials confirmed that the survey will conclude within the next month.
Authorities emphasised that the survey aims to ensure early identification of children with disabilities. Once identified, these children will be included in various state government schemes designed for their welfare and empowerment. The initiative also aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPWD) Act 2016.
Forest officers and district administrators will monitor the process to ensure accuracy. Supervising officials will verify whether the survey is being conducted properly. The government stressed that the exercise reflects its commitment to inclusive development and equal opportunities for all children.
The survey will provide crucial data to strengthen policies and programs for children with disabilities. By integrating them into education, healthcare, and social security schemes, the state aims to build a more inclusive society.
