The father of a second-year medical student from Odisha, who was allegedly gang-raped near a private medical college in Durgapur, has accused the authorities of inaction and lack of support.

The incident has sparked outrage and renewed debate on women’s safety in educational institutions.

Father Alleges Negligence and Threat to Life

Speaking to reporters, the victim’s father claimed that he was not receiving any cooperation from the hospital authorities.
He further alleged that the West Bengal government has remained silent on the issue despite the serious nature of the crime.

“I am not getting any help from the hospital authorities. There is even a threat to my life. If this had happened in Odisha, immediate action would have been taken,” he said.

The father also alleged that efforts are being made to divert attention from the case and that he is struggling to get updates on his daughter’s condition.

Victim’s Condition Remains Critical

According to sources, the student, who hails from Jaleswar in Balasore district, Odisha, is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Durgapur.

Her condition remains critical, and medical teams are monitoring her closely.

Protests on Campus and Public Outrage

The shocking incident has triggered mass protests on the college campus. Hundreds of students gathered to demand the immediate arrest of the accused and stronger safety measures for women students.

Women’s rights groups have also condemned the incident, calling for swift justice and better campus security across private medical institutions in West Bengal.

Demands for Accountability

Activists and student organizations have urged both the West Bengal and Odisha governments to ensure a transparent investigation.

They have also called for strict punishment of those responsible and proper protection for the victim’s family.
