In anticipation of a major political demonstration by the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), the Odisha government has directed all Secretariat staff to report to work by 9:00 AM on Wednesday.
The order, signed by Additional Chief Secretary (Home) S. Soumendra Patra, cites road closures and restricted access between the Red Building and Main Sewa Bhawan, effective from 9 AM, to manage logistical challenges posed by the demonstration. Employees are urged to plan accordingly, with no changes to other duties.
This move comes amid escalating political tensions following a tragic self-immolation by a 20-year-old student at FM University, Balasore, protesting alleged sexual harassment by a faculty member.
Sources indicate that the protest, spearheaded by BJD leaders, is aimed at pressing specific demands related to state welfare schemes and Centre–State funding dynamics.
