An Assistant Section Officer (ASO) of the Odisha Secretariat, identified as Swadhin Biswal from Sambalpur, died after slipping into Putudi waterfall in Kandhamal district.
His body was recovered on Monday morning.
Reports said Biswal visited the waterfall on Sunday with colleagues. While bathing, he accidentally slipped and fell into the water. His colleagues searched frantically but failed to trace him. They informed local police, who immediately launched a search operation with ODRAF and Fire Services personnel.
Despite extensive efforts, the team could not locate him on Sunday. The search resumed on Monday morning, and officials recovered his body from the Salunki River. Police confirmed the recovery and sent the body to the District Headquarters Hospital for a post-mortem. After the autopsy, the body will be handed over to his family.
Authorities said further investigation into the incident is underway. The tragic death has shocked colleagues and raised concerns about safety measures at tourist spots in Kandhamal.
