Odisha continues to battle an intense heatwave as temperatures soared beyond 43°C for the second consecutive day, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reported.
The western town of Boudh emerged as the hottest spot for the third consecutive day, recording a maximum of 43.5°C today, following yesterday’s 43.6°C.
Close on its heels, Bargarh sizzled at 42°C, while other districts like Angul and Malkangiri endured scorching highs of 40.7°C and 40.2°C, respectively.
Adding to the heatwave woes, nine locations across the state, including Jharsuguda, Balangir, and Sambalpur, reported temperatures between 39°C and 40°C. Even the capital city Bhubaneswar wasn’t spared, registering 36.7°C, while neighboring Cuttack recorded 37°C.
Forecasts from the IMD provide little solace, with no significant temperature changes expected over the next three days. However, a slight respite is anticipated later, with a dip of 3 to 5°C likely.
Meanwhile, a heatwave warning remains in effect for districts such as Jharsuguda, Boudh, Balangir, Sundargarh, Angul, and Kalahandi, valid until March 19.
Residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid direct sunlight during peak hours, and take precautions to stay safe amidst the sweltering conditions.
