In light of the impending heatwave forecast for the summer of 2025, the School & Mass Education Department of Odisha has announced revised school timings for all educational institutions across the state.
This decision aims to safeguard students from extreme heat and ensure their well-being during the sweltering summer months.
Effective immediately, the school hours for classes I to XII have been rescheduled to operate from 6:30 AM to 10:30 AM.
The revised timings apply to all government, government-aided, and privately managed schools under the department’s purview.
Shalini Pandit. IAS Commissioner-cum-Secretary, School & Mass Education, has issued necessary instructions to all the Collectors-cum-District Magistrates regarding the rescheduling of the timing of classes to mitigate the heatwave situation in the State for Summer 2025.
Key Measures to Ensure Safety:
Availability of Drinking Water: Schools are instructed to ensure a steady supply of drinking water. Damaged tube wells on campuses are to be repaired promptly.
Supply of ORS Packets: Ample Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) packets will be made available for students and staff in case of dehydration.
Restriction of Outdoor Activities: Schools are advised to limit outdoor activities to protect students from heat exposure.
Awareness Initiatives: Parents are being sensitized to ensure their children carry water bottles to school. Schools will also dedicate time during school hours to educate students about heat wave precautions.
Monitoring Local Weather: District authorities are empowered to modify school timings further based on localized heat wave conditions.
This proactive step underscores the government’s commitment to prioritizing the health and safety of students amid challenging weather conditions.
For further updates, parents and school authorities are encouraged to stay vigilant and adhere to the department’s guidelines.
