In preparation for the extreme heat wave expected in summer 2025, the Government of Odisha has proactively issued guidelines to ensure the safety and well-being of its citizens.
In a letter dated 26th March 2025, Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh, IAS, Principal Secretary to the Government of Odisha, outlined several measures directed towards regulating the operations of the Public Distribution System (PDS) and ensuring comfort for the beneficiaries and workers involved.
The key measures include setting regulated timing for food grain distribution from 7 AM to 10 AM and 5 PM to 8 PM to avoid the peak heat hours. Temporary shelters, drinking water facilities, and Oral Rehydration Solutions (ORS) will be provided at Fair Price Shops (FPS) and Rice Receiving Centers (RRCs) to prevent heat-related illnesses. Additionally, awareness campaigns using pamphlets and posters have been advised to educate beneficiaries and workers on heat wave precautions.
The Principal Secretary has urged all officials in the Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department to remain vigilant and ensure the timely implementation of these precautions.
