Odisha has witnessed a significant rise in electric vehicle (EV) registrations over the past five years.
According to data presented in the Odisha assembly on Thursday, a total of 1,55,068 EVs have been registered since 2021.
In response to a query by Baramba MLA Bijaya Kumar Dalabehera, Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena provided detailed insights into the EV registration data. He revealed that the registrations encompass two-wheelers, three-wheelers, cars, and buses.
The year-by-year breakdown is as follows:
- 2021: 5,626 vehicles (including two-wheelers, three-wheelers, four-wheelers, and buses)
- 2022: 28,447 vehicles
- 2023: 44,545 vehicles
- 2024: 65,977 vehicles
- 2025 (up to March 6): 10,473 vehicles
The minister also highlighted that the State Government has disbursed Rs 232.45 crore in subsidies to 1,22,578 beneficiaries from 2021 to 2025.
This surge in EV registrations reflects the positive impact of the State Government’s Electric Vehicle Rules rolled out in 2021, aiming to promote eco-friendly transportation and reduce carbon emissions.
