The renowned Bali Yatra festival, an iconic cultural event held annually in Cuttack, is striving for global recognition as the Odisha government pursues UNESCO heritage status.
This year, the festival saw a record turnout with thousands flocking to the historic fair, exploring a grand setup of 2,438 stalls.
The event generated a significant revenue of over Rs 6 crore through the auction and fixed-rate allocation of these stalls. Cultural Minister Suryabanshi Suraj shared in the Odisha Assembly that 1,188 stalls were auctioned, while 1,250 were allocated at fixed rates, highlighting the festival’s economic impact.
Bali Yatra celebrates Odisha’s rich maritime heritage, drawing visitors from across the country and boosting local commerce and tourism. The historic festival underscores the cultural and economic significance of the region.
The Odisha government is actively working with UNESCO, having established an expert team to maintain consistent dialogue. Cultural Minister Suraj expressed optimism, stating, “We are hopeful that UNESCO’s recognition will be realised soon.”
As the state awaits potential international recognition, the Bali Yatra festival continues to shine as a beacon of Odisha’s rich cultural heritage and economic vitality.
