Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today reviewed the activities of the Housing and Urban Development Department at Lok Seva Bhawan. During the meeting, the proposed economic region known as ‘Greater Bhubaneswar’ was discussed in detail. This region will encompass Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, and Paradip.

The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of developing Odisha by 2036, from both urban and economic perspectives. “There are plans to develop an area of 8,500 square kilometres as a residential, habitable, and long-term economic zone. He suggested that keeping future needs in mind, additional areas should be included if necessary,” CM Majhi said.

In light of Bhubaneswar’s growing population, the meeting considered the construction of a new city near Bhubaneswar and the implementation of a metro rail system. The Chief Minister directed the team to prepare a comprehensive urban development plan.

Attendees of the meeting included Housing and Urban Development Minister Dr. Krushna Chandra Mohapatra, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Development Commissioner and ACS Smt. Anu Garg, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Nikunja Bihari Dhal, ACS of Industries Hemant Sharma, Principal Secretary of the Housing and Urban Development Department Smt. Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary of Finance Sashwat Mishra, and Principal Secretary of the Public Works Department V.V. Yadav.
