Odisha is set to experience a dip in night temperatures starting from tonight, with the mercury expected to fall by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius across the state.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, this change will bring increased fog and colder conditions, particularly in the northern coastal and interior districts.
In the last 24 hours, fog has been observed in 13 cities, while five cities recorded temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius. G. Udayagiri emerged as the coldest spot with a minimum of 6.4 degrees Celsius, and dense fog was reported in Jajpur. The forecast indicates that dense fog and cold weather will persist until January 9, as stated by the centre’s director, Manorama Mohanty.
Currently, no specific weather system is active over the state. The prevailing dry conditions, combined with cloud inflows from the sea, are contributing to widespread fog. However, a slight shift is anticipated from Monday, leading to reduced fog density and a gradual rise in night temperatures.
In the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, along with other northern coastal districts, minimum temperatures have already trended lower. Mohanty noted that there is no indication of the cold wave easing over the next four days. Starting from January 9, the state’s minimum night temperatures are projected to increase by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius, with dry weather continuing.
Residents are advised to take precautions against the cold and reduced visibility due to fog, especially during early mornings and late evenings.
