In a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at Lok Seva Bhawan, the Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) outlined its ambitious goals for the financial year 2025-26.

The corporation aims to achieve a production target of 50 million tonnes of mineral resources and generate a sales revenue of ₹30,000 crore. The review meeting focused on strategies to enhance mineral production, improve operational efficiency, and uplift the livelihoods of communities in mining areas.

The discussions emphasised increasing bauxite production, with a target of 3.6 million tonnes this year, set to rise to 6 million tonnes in the next financial year. To achieve this, OMC will focus on extending mine lease periods, securing environmental clearances, and operationalising new mines.

Chief Minister Majhi stressed the importance of sustainable development, directing OMC to prioritise initiatives that enhance the quality of life for local communities in mining regions. He advocated for afforestation, community development programs, and the convergence of existing schemes to create sustainable livelihoods.

A significant highlight of the meeting was the plan to establish a pellet plant, as proposed earlier by the Chief Minister. The techno-economic feasibility report for the project has been entrusted to MECON, a Government of India enterprise. A dedicated project committee has been formed to commence the pellet plant operations by May 2026. This initiative is expected to add value to Odisha’s mineral resources and boost economic growth.

To strengthen OMC’s operational capabilities, Chief Minister Majhi advised recruiting skilled professionals across various domains. The meeting also underscored the need for a special plan to integrate developmental schemes for mining-affected areas, ensuring holistic growth.

The review meeting was attended by key officials, including the Additional Chief Secretary of the Steel and Mines Department, Surendra Kumar, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Sashwat Mishra, and senior OMC officials.
