A pall of gloom has descended on the Kumbhardhamuni panchayat under the Bissamcuttack block of Rayagada district following the sudden demise of a young migrant worker in Chennai.

The tragedy has left his elderly mother and pregnant wife completely destitute, robbing the family of its sole breadwinner.

The deceased has been identified as Bijay Batria, son of 70-year-old Draupadi Batria of Kumbhardhamuni panchayat. In search of better livelihoods to support his struggling family, Bijay had travelled to Chennai to work as a daily-wage migrant labourer. However, tragedy struck when family members received the heart-wrenching news that Bijay passed away while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Chennai.

Bijay was the only earning member of his household. The news of his untimely demise has broken the family’s backbone, leaving his elderly mother and pregnant wife in profound grief. With no source of income left, relatives and villagers are deeply worried about the future of the grieving family and the unborn child.

Expressing deep anguish over the tragedy, local residents and villagers have strongly urged the district administration and the state government to intervene immediately. They have demanded swift administrative assistance to ensure the repatriation of the body and adequate financial compensation for the distressed family.
