Law, Public Works and Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan on Friday underlined the growing importance of Assistant Directors of Law (ADLs) in the efficient management of pending cases across government departments, describing them as a crucial link between the Law Department and other administrative wings.

Speaking at a review meeting on the work efficiency of ADLs at the Convention Centre of Lok Seva Bhavan here, the Minister said the Law Department is one of the most important pillars of the state government — from framing new laws and amending old ones to providing legal assistance to various departments.“The role of Assistant Directors Law in the proper management of cases pending in various departments and in giving correct legal advice is extremely important,” Harichandan stated.

He reviewed the status and progress of cases in different departments and stressed that ADLs can effectively act as a bridge between the Law Department and concerned departments. This would help in the quick resolution of long-pending cases and the proper use of mediation laws.

Noting that the importance of ADLs has increased significantly in recent times, the Minister advised all officers to upgrade their skills and stay contemporary. He also revealed that the government is actively considering new recruitments, cadre restructuring, formulation of a Litigation Management Policy, and issuance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for better and more systematic case management.

On the occasion, Minister Harichandan released the Achievement Report booklet for 2025-26.

Principal Secretary of the Law Department, Dr. Pabitra Mohan Samal, provided necessary guidance to the officers. Special Secretary Pranab Kumar Patra and Additional Secretary Shiba Prasad Mohapatra were also present at the meeting.
