The Commerce and Transport Department of Odisha has rolled out the “Suraksha Dori” campaign across the state to mark Rakhi Purnima.
The campaign, led by the State Transport Authority (STA) and Regional Transport Offices (RTOs), aims to instil a sense of responsibility among drivers by symbolically tying safety threads—akin to Rakhi—to their wrists.
Students, volunteers, police officials, and departmental staff joined hands in this collaborative effort, urging drivers to pledge safe driving practices. The ‘Suraksha Dori’ served as a metaphorical reminder that just as Rakhi symbolises protection and care, road safety is a shared commitment to safeguard lives.
Officials emphasised that the initiative is not just ceremonial but a call to action. “Every thread tied today is a promise—to drive responsibly, to respect traffic rules, and to value life,” said a senior STA official.
The campaign was met with enthusiastic participation across districts, with transport hubs, schools, and public spaces becoming venues for these symbolic pledges. By aligning road safety with cultural sentiment, the initiative hopes to foster long-term behavioural change among Odisha’s driving community.
