In a significant move towards enhancing the fisheries sector in Odisha, a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed by the Department of Water Resources, Odisha with the Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA), Gujarat, and the Director of Fisheries, Odisha.
The signing ceremony took place at Rajib Bhawan in the presence of Anu Garg, IAS, Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Odisha, Department of Water Resources.
The MoU was signed among the Odisha Integrated Irrigation Project for Climate Resilient Agriculture (OIIPCRA), Department of Water Resources, Government of Odisha, Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department, Government of Odisha, and Institute of Rural Management Anand, Gujarat. The collaboration aims to enhance the capacity of fisheries officers and progressive farmers through structured residential training programs focused on fish market development.
Prominent attendees at the ceremony included Sadique Alam, Director of Fisheries, Odisha, Rashmi Ranjana Nayak, Project Director, OIIPCRA, and Dr. Umakant Dash, Director, IRMA, Gujarat, along with senior officers from the Departments of Water Resources; Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment; Fisheries and Animal Resources Development, and WorldFish.
The primary objective of this collaboration is to develop strategies for domestic market consumption of fish products. The initiative will familiarize officials and stakeholders with effective marketing techniques and consumer behavior insights. Additionally, the program will focus on building skills in supply chain management, organizing exposure visits to successful value chains, and promoting interactive learning and collaboration among participants.
The MoU is expected to bring about significant improvements in the fisheries sector, empowering officers and farmers with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in the market. This collaborative effort underscores the commitment of the Odisha government to the sustainable development of the fisheries sector and the welfare of its stakeholders.
