In a hands-on approach to ensure quality in government welfare schemes, Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) Minister Dr. Krushna Chandra Mohapatra visited Sunabeda Municipality in Koraput district on Thursday and conducted a thorough on-site inspection of the local Aahar Kendra.
The Aahar scheme, which provides subsidised meals to the urban poor, came under scrutiny as the Minister personally tasted the food served at the centre. Expressing strong dissatisfaction, Dr. Mohapatra noted that the meal lacked essential nutritional components such as vegetables and dal, describing it as largely watery and inadequate.
“This situation is unacceptable,” the Minister stated firmly. He issued a stern warning to the responsible authorities, directing them to implement immediate improvements in food quality, freshness, and nutritional value. Terming it the “first and last warning,” he made it clear that failure to comply would result in strict action, including potential cancellation of responsibilities.
The inspection was accompanied by Koraput MLA Shri Raghuram Machha, along with senior officials including the District Collector of Koraput, Superintendent of Police, Koraput, and the Executive Officer of Sunabeda Municipality.
As part of his ongoing district tour, Dr. Mohapatra also reviewed various development works in Koraput. He visited a winter shelter facility, interacted directly with residents, and assessed the amenities provided to ensure they meet the needs of vulnerable sections.
In meetings with departmental officers, the Minister emphasised the effective implementation of government schemes, stressing the importance of quality execution, transparency, and accountability in all urban development initiatives.
