In a transformative move to preserve the spiritual and architectural legacy of Odisha, the state government is set to formulate a comprehensive temple management policy.
Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan announced the initiative during a review meeting, emphasising structured rituals and effective restoration of centuries-old temples.
Drawing inspiration from temple governance models in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu, Odisha plans to undertake state-wide condition assessments through Endowment Department officials. The policy will address restoration standards, digital modernisation of temple data, and ritual uniformity. Importantly, it will encompass both government-endowed and privately managed temples.
Additional provisions will support religious festivals, grant allocation for temple upkeep, licensing worship rights, defining trust board roles, and strengthening Hindu institutions under the OHRE Act, 1951.
