Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government’s sponsorship for Hockey India will be extended for three more years till 2036, said CM Mohan Majhi after the Hockey India delegation met him at the State Guest House on Friday.
Hockey India President Padma Shri Dilip Tirkey and Secretary General Bholanath Singh held a courtesy meeting with Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi at the State Guest House today.
During the discussion, they said that Odisha has got a unique identity in the world for hockey. Odisha has contributed appreciably to the development of the Indian hockey team. They promised to cooperate with the Odisha government for the development of hockey.
The Chief Minister said that the Odisha Government is going to celebrate the centenary of the formation of a separate Odisha state in 2036, therefore the sponsorship period of the Odisha Government to Hockey India will be extended for another three years from 2033 and all the support from the State Government will be provided for the development of hockey.
It is worth noting that the Odisha government has taken responsibility for the sponsorship of the Indian hockey team since 2018. The previous government announced sponsorship for 10 years from 2023.
Minister Suryabanshi Suraj also said that the Chief Minister has taken this decision out of respect for the passion of the people of Odisha towards hockey. Chief Secretary Sri P. K. Jena, Sports Secretary Shri Vineel Krishna and other senior officials were also present in the meeting.
