The Odisha government sanctioned Rs 1 crore for the construction of a new Brahma Taladhwaja Rath of Lord Baladevjew in Kendrapara district, ensuring smooth conduct of the annual Rathyatra and rituals.
Law, Works and Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan explained that the existing chariot faced repeated disruptions due to damaged wheels. The 14 wheels of the old Rath often created obstacles, delaying the journey to the Mausima temple by nearly two days. Similar issues occurred during the Bahuda Yatra, causing inconvenience to devotees and priests.
To prevent further problems, the government approved a special grant of Rs 1 crore for building a new chariot. The Law Department issued independent guidelines to oversee the construction process and ensure adherence to tradition.
Harichandan emphasised that the state remains committed to preserving the rituals and heritage of the Baladevjew temple. He noted that the grant will benefit devotees, pilgrims, and residents of Odisha by safeguarding the sanctity of the festival.
