The Odisha government has refunded Rs 49.67 crore to chit fund victims over the past 14 months, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the Assembly today.
Responding to a query from Bhograi MLA Goutam Buddha Das, the Chief Minister revealed that 1,33,755 depositors from Rose Valley, Goldenland, and Hi-Tech Estates Group have received compensation based on recommendations from the Chit Fund Commission. The Commission’s interim report had identified 4,72,651 small investors eligible for repayment from the state’s ₹300-crore corpus fund.
Of the total amount, Rs 46 crore was disbursed to 96,801 victims. Additionally, Rs 123 crore has been refunded to 3,16,063 depositors under the Odisha Protection of Interests of Depositors (OPID) Act, 2011, using proceeds from court-ordered auctions of Ponzi firms’ assets.
According to the Economic Offences Wing, nearly Rs 6,860 crore was invested by 24.75 lakh depositors in fraudulent schemes across the state. The Chief Minister assured the House that efforts are underway to expedite the refund process and ensure justice for all genuine victims.
