Despite clear directives from the Odisha government mandating the closure of all schools due to the severe heatwave, reports have emerged of several institutions continuing operations in defiance of the official summer vacation order.
The School and Mass Education Department has now instructed District Education Officers (DEOs) to enforce strict measures against such schools, ensuring compliance with the summer closure directive.
A letter issued by Additional Secretary Durga Prasad Mohapatra emphasised the necessity of protecting students from the extreme temperatures. The government had previously declared a summer vacation starting from April 22, 2025, as a precautionary measure. However, some schools have disregarded this mandate, putting student health and safety at risk.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and are prepared to take corrective action against institutions failing to comply. The move underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding students amid rising concerns over heat-related illnesses.
