Odisha Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati graced the second convocation of NIST University in Berhampur on Friday, urging graduating students to harness their knowledge for solving pressing societal problems, protecting the environment, and promoting social harmony.
Addressing the graduates, the Governor emphasised the need for professionals who combine skill with compassion to tackle contemporary challenges such as sustainability, inclusivity, public health, cyber security, and equitable development. “True leadership is not defined merely by personal success, but by the positive and lasting impact one creates in society,” he said.
Highlighting the rapidly evolving global landscape shaped by technology, artificial intelligence, climate change, geopolitical uncertainties, and social transformations, Dr. Kambhampati advised the young graduates that success is measured not just by degrees but by critical thinking, ethical action, and adaptability. He encouraged them to view education as the beginning of lifelong learning, fostering curiosity, resilience, and the courage to innovate.
Despite technological progress, timeless qualities like character, integrity, honesty, humility, and empathy remain essential, the Governor noted.
Expressing delight at attending the ceremony, he described it as a pivotal moment where years of effort culminate in achievement and responsibility. He congratulated all graduates, medalists, and award winners, acknowledging the guidance of faculty and the sacrifices of parents and families.
Praising NIST University as a respected centre of higher education in Odisha, Dr Kambhampati highlighted its contributions to academic excellence, research, innovation, entrepreneurship, and social responsibility. He commended its alignment with the National Education Policy 2020 and the leadership of President Dr Sukanta Kumar Mahapatra.
Referring to Odisha’s ongoing development in infrastructure, industry, and technology-driven sectors, the Governor said the state offers unprecedented opportunities for the youth. He called on graduates to become ambassadors of excellence and integrity, stay connected with their alma mater, and contribute meaningfully to society.
Other dignitaries who addressed the gathering included AICTE Vice Chairman Dr Abhay Jere from New Delhi and NIST University President Dr Sukanta Kumar Mahapatra. Vice-Chancellor Dr Priyadarshi Patra delivered the welcome address.
The convocation marked a celebratory milestone for NIST University, reinforcing its commitment to nurturing skilled and responsible professionals for a better future.
