Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has approved a new maternity leave policy, ensuring 180 days of leave for female government employees.
This decision aims to support working mothers and eliminate confusion regarding maternity leave eligibility.
Under the revised policy, maternity leave can be availed three months before the expected delivery date and up to six months after childbirth. Employees not in service at the time of delivery can still apply for leave until their child turns six months old, although the total duration may be less than 180 days.
The policy also covers miscarriage, stillbirth, and infant death. Women who experience such unfortunate circumstances will receive 42 days of leave, while those whose infants pass away between 29 to 120 days after birth will be eligible for 14 days of additional leave.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi approved this proposal to create a transparent and supportive maternity leave system for female government employees. The move is expected to boost workplace inclusivity and ensure better maternal care for working women across Odisha.
