Odisha clinched the championship title in the Advanced Search & Rescue Skills Competition, with its Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) team securing first place.
Andhra Pradesh finished as runner‑up in the prestigious event.
The victory marks a remarkable journey for Odisha’s disaster response capabilities. After the devastating Super Cyclone of 1999, the state lacked a dedicated disaster response force and relied heavily on support from Andhra Pradesh. Recognising the urgent need for preparedness, Odisha established ODRAF in 2001.
Since then, ODRAF has evolved into one of India’s premier disaster response units. The force has consistently demonstrated excellence in handling floods, cyclones, industrial accidents, and rescue operations across the country. Its training, discipline, and rapid deployment capacity have earned national recognition.
Officials highlighted that ODRAF’s success in the competition reflects years of investment in skill development, modern equipment, and rigorous drills. The achievement also underscores Odisha’s transformation from a state once dependent on external support to a leader in disaster management.
The win serves as a proud moment for Odisha, reinforcing its reputation as a model in disaster preparedness and response.
