Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo has arrived in Bhutan to participate in the South Asia Labour Mobility Conference, organised by the World Bank.

The two-day event, scheduled for May 20 and 21 in Thimphu, aims to address labour mobility issues and formulate policy solutions for migrant workers.

Shri Singh Deo, who also serves as the Minister for Agriculture, Farmers’ Empowerment, and Energy, is the Chairman of the Task Force on Distressed Migration. His role in the conference is crucial, as discussions will centre on challenges faced by migrant workers and strategies to create sustainable policy solutions.

Accompanying him is the Principal Secretary of Labour and Employees’ State Insurance, Smt. Chitra Arumugam. The event will witness participation from around 100 representatives, including officials from Bhutan, Middle Eastern countries, North Africa, Italy, Australia, UAE, Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Jamaica, Bangladesh, and World Bank representatives.

This conference marks a significant effort to tackle labour migration concerns and strengthen international cooperation in addressing workforce challenges. Shri Singh Deo’s involvement is expected to provide valuable insights into India’s approach to labour mobility and worker welfare.
