Odisha’s energy sector is set for a technological overhaul as Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment and Energy, Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, reviewed the operations of the Odisha Power Generation Corporation (OPGC) at Lok Seva Bhavan today.

OPGC, a cornerstone of the state’s energy landscape, meets over 30% of Odisha’s power demand through its large thermal power generating stations, including the 1740 MW Ib Thermal Power Station.

During the review, Singh Deo emphasised the urgent need to strengthen OPGC’s data management and operational security infrastructure. He directed officials to leverage cutting-edge technologies such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), and other high-end solutions to modernise and secure the corporation’s systems. “Secured power infrastructure is our priority,” he stated, underscoring the role of advanced technology in ensuring a reliable and efficient energy supply for Odisha’s residents.

A key highlight of the meeting was a presentation by RailTel, a public sector enterprise specialising in telecom and IT infrastructure. RailTel showcased potential solutions to enhance OPGC’s security and operational efficiency, drawing on their expertise in IoT, big data, and AI. The presentation was attended by Principal Secretary Vishal Kumar Dev, OPGC Managing Director Kedar Ranjan Pandu, Financial Advisor and Additional Secretary Devidutta Tripathi, and RailTel officials.
