With the annual Rath Yatra in Puri scheduled for June 27, Odisha’s Director General of Police (DGP) Y B Khurania has reviewed security measures to ensure a safe and peaceful festival.

Given the current security dynamics between India and Pakistan, authorities are enforcing special arrangements to safeguard millions of devotees.

As part of the preparations, the Jagannath Temple and Grand Road—the main route of the chariots—will have heightened security. Armoured vehicles will be stationed at strategic points, and strict surveillance will be conducted at entry points, Puri Beach, and sensitive areas.

The Odisha Police have deployed additional forces, including anti-terror squads, and are coordinating with intelligence agencies to monitor potential threats. Drone surveillance has been restricted, and emergency response teams are on standby for swift action.

Addressing the press, DGP Khurania assured that robust security strategies are in place. He urged devotees to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities to ensure a smooth Rath Yatra.

The annual festival, which attracts millions from across the country and abroad, marks the ceremonial journey of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra from the temple to the Gundicha Temple.

Authorities are expected to conduct final security drills in the coming weeks to strengthen the response mechanism for any potential disruptions.
