Odisha DGP Felicitates Medal-Winning Police Athletes in Grand Celebration

Athletes from Odisha Police have returned home in triumph after securing an impressive tally of 20 medals at the World Police & Fire Games 2025, held in Birmingham, USA, from June 27 to July 6.


Representing India as part of the national contingent, seven athletes from Odisha Police (five men and two women) made the nation proud with their stellar performances in athletics and karate events.

To honour their achievements, a felicitation ceremony was organised at the DGP’s camp office, where Director General of Police, Shri Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, personally congratulated the winners for their exceptional performance. Commending their discipline, sportsmanship and dedication, DGP Khurania stated that their accomplishments will inspire Odisha’s youth and pave the way for future milestones.

In total, Odisha Police athletes bagged 13 gold, 3 silver, and 4 bronze medals. Their individual contributions in track, steeplechase, marathon and karate brought glory not only to the state but also enhanced India’s standing in the medal chart.

Ashok Dandasena (C/344):

  • 🥇 Gold Medal in 800m Run
  • 🥇 Gold Medal in 1500m Run
  • 🥇 Gold Medal in 5000m Run
  • 🥇 Gold Medal in 10000m Run
  • 🥇 Gold Medal in 21 km Half Marathon (Individual)
  • 🥇 Gold Medal in 21 km Half Marathon (Team)
  • 🥇 Gold Medal in 3000m Steeplechase
  • 🥈 Silver Medal in 4x400m Relay

Susmita Tiga (RC/286):

  • 🥇 Gold Medal in 1500m Run
  • 🥇 Gold Medal in 3000m Steeplechase
  • 🥈 Silver Medal in 800m Run
  • 🥈 Silver Medal in 21 km Half Marathon (Individual)
  • 🥉 Bronze Medal in 4x400m Relay

Sabita Toppo (RC/259):

  • 🥇 Gold Medal in 100m Hurdles (Women)
  • 🥉 Bronze Medal in 400m Hurdles (Women)
  • 🥉 Bronze Medal in 4x400m Relay (Women)

D. Bhagwan Reddy (RC/159):

  • 🥇 Gold Medal in Karate (64 kg Category)

Suman Sekhar Das (RC/154):

  • 🥇 Gold Medal in Karate (Below 84 kg Category)

Ritesh Ray (RC/135):

  • 🥇 Gold Medal in Karate (Above 84 kg Category)

Abhishek Pattnaik (C/815):

  • 🥉 Bronze Medal in Karate (Individual Kata Category)

The athletes were warmly welcomed at Biju Patnaik International Airport earlier in the day by Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena. Their return was marked with flower garlands and warm applause.

The felicitation ceremony was graced by top police officials, including ADG Arun Bothra, ADG Rajesh Kumar, Commissioner Dr. S. Dev Datta Singh, and others. Odisha Police Sports Officer Nilamadhav Swain moderated the event.

This remarkable achievement marks a historic chapter in Indian Police sports history and adds to Odisha’s growing stature in global sporting arenas.
