The facility was formally launched by Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, reinforcing the government’s focus on building a resilient and technology-driven energy sector.

Boost to Power Sector Capabilities

The newly established laboratory is designed to enhance technical expertise in power system planning, grid management, and operational efficiency. Equipped with advanced simulation tools, the facility will allow engineers to model complex grid scenarios, analyse load flow, assess system stability, and simulate fault conditions in real time.

This initiative is expected to significantly improve the reliability and efficiency of Odisha’s transmission network, ensuring it can meet rising energy demands while seamlessly integrating renewable energy sources.

Government’s Vision for ‘Viksit Odisha’

Addressing the inauguration, Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo highlighted the importance of a strong transmission network in achieving the vision of a developed Odisha.

He stated that the laboratory will enable engineers to anticipate challenges, optimise grid operations, and ensure uninterrupted, high-quality power supply for industries, agriculture, and households. The move aligns with the broader goal of creating a modern, sustainable, and future-ready power ecosystem.

Centre for Innovation and Skill Development

Speaking at the event, Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma, Chairman-cum-Managing Director of OPTCL, described the facility as a centre of excellence for training, research, and innovation in power systems.

He emphasised that the lab will provide hands-on training to engineers, support data-driven decision-making, and strengthen preparedness for grid contingencies, ultimately improving overall system performance.
