Additional Diwali Holiday

The Odisha government has declared 20 October 2025 as an additional holiday for Diwali across the state, excluding Nuapada district.

The previously declared holiday on 21 October 2025 will remain effective. However, all banks and other banking institutions will remain open on that day.

Accordingly, government offices in Odisha will observe a two-day holiday on Monday, 20 October, and Tuesday, 21 October 2025, in celebration of the Diwali festival.

This decision modifies earlier notifications issued by the Revenue and Disaster Management Department.

According to the revised notification RDM-Reg-MISC-0013-2024, all government offices and Magisterial Courts (Executive) will remain closed on Diwali. However, Nuapada district will not observe the holiday, and its government offices and Magisterial Courts will function normally.

This update partially alters Notification No. 39057/Revenue and English Notification No. 39077/Revenue, both dated 12 November 2024. The change reflects the state’s effort to accommodate regional administrative needs while celebrating the Diwali holiday in Odisha.

In addition to the Diwali announcement, the government has declared 25 October 2025, which falls on the fourth Saturday, as a working day. This adjustment ensures continuity in administrative operations following the festive break.

The Diwali holiday in Odisha is expected to bring relief and celebration to government employees across the state. Meanwhile, Nuapada district will maintain regular operations, highlighting its unique administrative stance.

This Diwali holiday Odisha update aims to balance festive observance with governance. Citizens and officials are advised to plan accordingly, especially in Nuapada where services will remain uninterrupted.
