Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi chaired a high-level meeting at Lok Seva Bhawan to review the ongoing and upcoming infrastructure projects under the Public Works Department (PWD) in the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Twin City region.

The meeting focused on addressing the growing traffic congestion, enhancing urban aesthetics, and ensuring sustainable development while prioritising rehabilitation for displaced families.

The discussions centred on a comprehensive development plan to decongest the Twin City area and improve its infrastructure to meet the demands of rapid urbanisation. Key projects include an elevated corridor from Jaydev Vihar to Nandankanan, the Daya West Canal Road construction from Patia Station Chhak to Suanga Mouza, and the widening of the Sundarpada-Jatani road. Additionally, three flyovers at Kalpana Chhak, Museum Chhak, and Shishu Bhawan Chhak, along with an underpass at AG Chhak, are planned to streamline traffic flow.

Further enhancing connectivity, a Left Parallel Road from the Institute of Mathematics to Ekamra Kanan via Patharagadia, Utkal Hospital, and Rail Vihar is under construction. Three Right Access Roads—connecting Damana to Press Chhak, Kalarahanga to Barimunda, and Kelucharan Park to Barimunda—are also in the pipeline. An Inner Ring Road is proposed to alleviate traffic pressure further and improve mobility across Bhubaneswar.

Chief Minister Majhi expressed optimism that these projects will not only address the escalating traffic challenges but also enhance the aesthetic appeal of Bhubaneswar, positioning it as a model smart city. “These initiatives will transform the Twin City into a more connected and beautiful urban hub, ensuring smoother commutes and a better quality of life for residents,” he stated.

A critical aspect of the meeting was the government’s commitment to supporting approximately 366 families displaced due to these infrastructure projects. The state has assured proper rehabilitation, including resettlement and financial assistance, to ensure no one is left behind in the pursuit of progress.

The meeting saw the participation of key officials, including PWD, Law, and Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, Housing and Urban Development Minister Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Development Commissioner Anu Garg, Principal Secretary of PWD Sanjay Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary of Finance Saswat Mishra, and Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh, among other senior officials.

These infrastructure developments mark a significant step toward modernising the Twin City region, balancing urban growth with sustainable practices, and ensuring inclusive progress for all stakeholders.

As Bhubaneswar and Cuttack gear up for this transformation, residents can look forward to a more efficient and visually appealing urban landscape.
