Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi led a high-level review meeting in Lok Seva Bhavan, Bhubaneswar on October 28 to evaluate the state’s readiness for Cyclone Montha.

As the storm approached the Andhra coast, the government intensified its preparedness efforts.

Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari, Development Commissioner Anu Garg, Chief Secretary, and Special Relief Commissioner joined the meeting. District collectors and department heads participated virtually, sharing updates on local arrangements.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclone Montha intensified into a severe cyclonic storm over the west-central Bay of Bengal. It is moving north-northwest and is expected to cross the Andhra coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam with wind speeds reaching up to 110 kmph.

Although Odisha lies outside the cyclone’s direct path, several districts may experience heavy to extremely heavy rainfall. CM Majhi urged officials to implement proactive measures and ensure zero casualty. He instructed teams to stay on high alert and activate emergency protocols in vulnerable zones.

The state government has already conducted multiple review sessions and deployed disaster response teams. Relief materials, evacuation plans, and shelter arrangements are in place across coastal and adjoining districts. Authorities have also mobilized communication networks and medical support to handle emergencies.

As Cyclone Montha threatens eastern India’s coastline, Odisha’s leadership remains committed to minimizing its impact. The coordinated response reflects the state’s focus on timely action and public safety.
