In response to reports of a diarrhoea outbreak in parts of Jajpur and Keonjhar districts, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has taken decisive action to curb the spread of the disease.

Immediate directives were issued to district health officials and senior health department authorities to implement necessary measures, ensuring prompt medical care and containment strategies.

All health centres in the affected districts have been placed on high alert to provide uninterrupted healthcare services to those affected. In Jajpur, authorities have initiated urgent purification of all drinking water sources, suspecting contaminated water as the primary cause of the outbreak. Additionally, a temporary ban on roadside food sales has been enforced, alongside stricter food safety inspections to prevent further cases.

To safeguard neighboring districts, advisories have been issued to remain vigilant and adopt preventive measures. The government has deployed sufficient medical supplies, medicines, and specialised healthcare teams to manage the situation effectively. A medical team from SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack has been dispatched to treat patients and monitor the situation closely.

Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling is actively overseeing the response, holding regular discussions with district doctors and officials to ensure coordinated efforts. In a significant boost to the state’s response, a team from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has arrived in Odisha to assist in identifying the outbreak’s cause and strengthening containment measures.

The state’s proactive measures, combined with ICMR’s expertise, aim to bring the outbreak under control swiftly, while long-term efforts focus on improving water quality and food safety standards.
