Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has expressed deep sorrow following the death of a second‑year BEd student at Fakir Mohan Autonomous College, Balasore.
In a compassionate move, he has also announced financial assistance of Rs 20 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to be provided to the student’s next of kin.
The student, who had attempted self‑immolation in protest against alleged sexual harassment and institutional inaction, succumbed to her injuries on Monday at AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
The CM has directed a thorough investigation and urged that all responsible parties be punished under the full force of the law.
Earlier, the student had written to the college’s Internal Complaints Committee, warning she would take drastic steps if her complaint was ignored—despite repeated appeals to college authorities and filing a complaint on July 1.
Chief Minister Majhi said he “prays for the departed soul’s peace” and assured that “those found guilty will face the strictest punishment in accordance with the law.”
